100 years ago in the village of Fatima, Portugal. Our Lady first appeared to Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta, setting off a string of events that has inspired and renewed the faith of many. Lucia described being in the presence of our Lady as an experience of “joy, expansion, and freedom”. Her appearance was marked by a flash of lighting, her robe a white mantle edged in gold.

These tangible visitations instilled in Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta an urgency to pray the rosary, as they were warned of the persecutions that would be felt around the world in the absence of divine help. In a sequence of six visitations, our Lady revealed her desire for peace for suffering souls and a suffering world. 100 years later, her message is still deeply felt. Today, may we feel the same urgency for prayer that the shepherd children felt in her presence.
