The origin of this famous chalice can be traced back tothe Duke Tassilo III of Bavaria, Germany,VIII Century. Itis one of the most important treasures of this era eventhough it was not known of until the XI or XII Century.It is the symbol of the wedding between the Duke TassiloIII, from the Agilolfing dynasty that governed Bavariaand Liutpirc, the daughter of the Lombardian KingDesiderius, and was presented by them in 777 to theMonastery of Kremsm ünster (Germany) where it is stillpreserved today.

The only modification to this original chalice is the factthat the wording on the base from the original Tassilochalice (+ TASSILO DVX FORTIS + LIUTPIRC VIRGAREGALIS +) has been changed to the Latin text PERIPSUM CUM IPSO IN IPSO + meaning FOR HIM WITHHIM IN HIM +, of important meaning in liturgy, thusmaking our version more appropriate for its use in aliturgical catholic service. Our chalice is also slightlysmaller in size, making it easier to use during the servicesthan the original of considerably larger dimensions. Thedesign and style of the figures present on our chalice aresensibly more refined and symmetrical than those of theoriginal, of a more primitive design.

Fire enamelled version of the VIII century Tassilo chalice, executed in cloissonne fire enamel, solid 925 sterling silver, 24K gold lined cup. It features The Messiah and the Four Evangelists on the cup with the inscription in Latin "Per Ipsum, Cum Ipso, In Ipso" (For Him, With HIm, In Him) on the base.
