The Douay-Rheims & Clementina Vulgata is a side-by-side Latin-English Catholic Bible that sets the Clementine Vulgate next to its English translation, the Douay-Rheims. It is bound in leather with an ornate gold-blocked cover and spine. Because the Douay-Rheims is a word-for-word translation of the Vulgate, readers can follow the Latin line by line with the English as a guide, even with limited Latin. It is suited to theology and seminary students, students of Latin, those who pray or study with the traditional Latin texts of the Church, and families who want Scripture in both languages.

The Clementine Vulgate was proclaimed the official Latin Bible of the Church after the Reformation. Before vernacular editions became common, it was the Bible that educated Catholics knew. Reading the two texts in parallel shows exactly how the English rendering follows the Latin. This edition includes Bishop Challoner's notes. It also contains the texts printed in the Vulgate's appendix, 3 and 4 Esdras and the Prayer of Manasses, in Latin with an English translation. At 8½ by 11½ inches and 1,488 pages, it is a large-format volume for a desk or lectern. Gilded page edges, head and tail bands, and two satin ribbons finish the binding.

Use & care:
Suited to study at a desk or lectern, Latin and theology coursework, and following traditional Latin Scripture texts alongside the English. Given its size, support the full width of the book when opening it, store it flat or upright on a sturdy shelf, and condition the leather occasionally with a leather-safe product to keep it from drying.
