The psalms that were chosen correspond to the portion of the liturgical year that is displayed in each of the four corners. The psalms are the prayerbook of both the Jewish and Christian faithful. When we pray the psalms, we place the very words of Jesus upon our lips and express the human emotions of joy, praise, thankfulness, fear, grief, lamentation, and even anger. The center of the calendar shows Jesus with his hands outstretched in prayer, a sign of his obedient, self-emptying devotion to God the Father. He is wearing the Jewish prayer shawl, the tallit, a reminder of the commandments of the Torah, and that Jesus, as a Jewish person, shared in the priesthood of God. Through our baptism, we too share in the ministerial priesthood of Jesus and are called to be people of prayer. The psalms are a means by which we consecrate our day to God and give voice to the whispers of our hearts. Journeying through the liturgical year with the illustrations of the corners give us a means to praise God during Advent, Christmas Time, and winter Ordinary Time; seek conversion and open hearts during Lent and Triduum; rejoice during Easter Time; and give thanks to God for his bounty and harvest during the summer and fall months of Ordinary Time. Focusing on the psalms provides a rich opportunity for teachers and catechists to open the prayer book of the Christian faithful and help children and adults develop a daily habit of praying with the psalms.

This year's Year of Grace calendar includes the celebrations that are proper to the 2027 liturgical year.
